Here is a genuine story about a boy who grows up on a remote Free State farm. It’s the early 1920’s when he is born, his junior schooling was carried out by a governess on the farm – where he developed an interest for model building. He goes on to complete his education at the local high school, at the same time World War 2 breaks out. In a call to duty he leaves home to sign up with the South African Air Force.
With a passion for flying he graduates to become a bomber pilot, with a very successful flying and bombing record, due to his bravery he is decorated with a D F C, he earns the rank of Major and subsequently heads up 16th Squadron.
As a man who cherished family and friends I thought this neighbourhood pub would be an ideal way of sharing his love of life.
